Mind Empowers Youth Organisation (MEYO)
Founded by Dr. Thobani Makhaza, Mind Empowers Youth Organisation (MEYO) is a transformative initiative dedicated to advocating for the advancement of South Africa’s youth. MEYO focuses on empowering young individuals, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, by promoting academic excellence, providing essential support, and opening doors to educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
The core mission of MEYO is to bridge the educational divide and create a platform where every young South African regardless of their socio-economic background can thrive. Through bursary programs, mentorship, and resources, MEYO ensures that talented, ambitious youth have access to the tools they need to excel academically and professionally.
MEYO also places a strong emphasis on holistic development, nurturing the personal growth of youth beyond academics. The organization fosters creativity, leadership, and innovation in young people, guiding them to become future leaders in their communities and beyond.
Through its various initiatives, MEYO continues to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for South Africa’s youth, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in an ever-changing world.
In addition to its commitment to youth education, MEYO recognizes the pressing social issues that continue to afflict South African society, particularly the epidemic of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). As a response to the never-ending challenges faced by communities, MEYO has launched a powerful new initiative: the National Prayer Intervention.
Dr. Thobani Makhaza
A Visionary Entrepreneur and Advocate for Change
Early Life and Education:
Born on March 10, 1987, in Richards Bay, Dr. Thobani Makhaza’s journey began with humble roots. He attended Emandosini Primary School before progressing to Ndlavuzo High School, where his academic excellence stood out. His brilliance was so remarkable that he skipped two grades, showcasing a level of intelligence and determination beyond his years.
Dr. Makhaza’s pursuit of higher education led him to the Durban University of Technology (DUT), where he enrolled to study marketing. However, the passing of his beloved grandmother, coupled with financial constraints, made it impossible for him to complete his studies. Despite this setback, the experience became a powerful driving force for him—motivating him to found the MEYO (Mind Empowers Youth Organization), an initiative aimed at giving young people the opportunities he himself had struggled to obtain.

National Prayer Intervention for Gender-Based Violence
In light of the intensifying crisis of GBV in South Africa, MEYO is proposing the hosting of a National Prayer Intervention on 04 April 2025. This event will focus specifically on the epidemic of Gender-Based Violence against women and children, a devastating issue that continues to plague South African society. South Africa remains one of the countries with the highest rates of GBV, including intimate femicide, rape, and intimate partner, MEYO is deeply committed to bringing national attention to this issue and fostering meaningful change.
The National Prayer Intervention will serve as a collective call for healing, awareness, and action. The event aims to unite religious communities and leaders across South Africa in prayer and action against GBV. MEYO’s purpose is to ensure that Gender-Based Violence awareness extends beyond the 16 Days of Activism, with a pledge from religious organizations to commit to raising awareness, offering support, and advocating for lasting societal change throughout the entire year.
MEYO envisions a South Africa where every woman and child is safe, free from the horrors of violence, and where the nation stands united in its commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence. By focusing on education, mental health, and community action, MEYO is working towards a future where every young person, woman, and child can thrive in an environment free of violence and fear.

1. Introduction to MEYO Membership
Welcome to MEYO, a community-driven initiative dedicated to empowering students by providing access to educational opportunities. As part of our commitment to academic excellence, we offer the MEYO Bursary Programme, designed to support students in achieving their educational goals.
To access the MEYO Bursary Programme, you must first become an Active MEYO Member. Your membership ensures that you stay connected with our community, receive educational support, and gain access to exclusive benefits.
The bursary programme itself is completely free of charge. However, to apply, you must pay a one-time membership fee of R200 which serves as your Membership fee.
2. MEYO Membership Sign-Up Process

Step 2: After Payment, you will be redirected to the Bursary Registration Form

To complete your bursary application, prepare the following:
✅ Proof of Payment of the R200 membership fee
✅ Certified Copy of Your ID
✅ Certified Copy of Guardian’s ID (if applicable)
✅ Latest Academic Record/ Results.
✅ Proof of Residence
Step 3: Submit Your Application
- Fill out the MEYO Bursary Application Form.
- Attach the required documents.
- Submit your application for processing.
Once your application is approved, you will receive a MEYO Membership Certificate, confirming your active membership.
📢 Important Note: The bursary programme is free of charge once you are a MEYO member. However, failure to provide all required documents may result in delays or disqualification.
