Mind Empowers Youth Organisation (MEYO)

About MEYO
Founded by Dr. Thobani Makhaza, Mind Empowers Youth Organisation (MEYO) is a national leader in youth empowerment, serving over 166,000 direct youth beneficiaries. We partner with various government departments, the Presidency, and national youth programs to promote academic excellence, mentorship, and resources that bridge educational divides.

NPO Registration: 077-481 |  PBO Number: 930040335  | CSD Number: MAAA0730993

Our mission is to empower young South Africans from underprivileged backgrounds with the tools to excel academically and professionally, fostering leadership, creativity, and a sense of purpose.

The core mission of MEYO is to bridge the educational divide and create a platform where every young South African regardless of their socio-economic background can thrive. Through bursary programs, mentorship, and resources, MEYO ensures that talented, ambitious youth have access to the tools they need to excel academically and professionally.

MEYO also places a strong emphasis on holistic development, nurturing the personal growth of youth beyond academics. The organization fosters creativity, leadership, and innovation in young people, guiding them to become future leaders in their communities and beyond.

Through its various initiatives, MEYO continues to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for South Africa’s youth, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in an ever-changing world.

In addition to its commitment to youth education, MEYO recognizes the pressing social issues that continue to afflict South African society, particularly the epidemic of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). As a response to the never-ending challenges faced by communities, MEYO has launched a powerful new initiative: the National Prayer Intervention.

Our Achievements

  • Reached over 1.5 million youth through national outreach programmes.
  • Partnered with HWSETA and NYDA to deliver accredited skills training.
  • Recognized by the Department of Social Development (2022) for excellence in GBV prevention and youth empowerment.

National Prayer Intervention for Gender-Based Violence

Date: 4 April 2026

MEYO is committed to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through the National Prayer Intervention. This event seeks to unite religious communities across the country to pray and take action against GBV, a critical issue in South Africa.

The National Prayer Intervention aims to:

  • Raise awareness about the violence faced by women and children
  • Unite religious organizations in a collective effort to end GBV
  • Promote community action through education and mental health awareness

MEYO envisions a South Africa where every woman and child is safe, free from the horrors of violence, and where the nation stands united in its commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence. By focusing on education, mental health, and community action, MEYO is working towards a future where every young person, woman, and child can thrive in an environment free of violence and fear.
